The Body Remembers
A hand-built sculptural vessel exploring memory, transformation and the traces we carry within us.
Human faces emerge from the surface of the form, intertwined with cicadas, moths and ornamental relief work. Together they speak to cycles of becoming — identities shed and reclaimed, experiences carried forward, and the ways in which the body holds stories long after words have faded.
The vessel draws upon ancient ceremonial forms while incorporating recurring motifs found throughout my practice: insects as symbols of transformation, repetition as a reflection of natural rhythms, and ornament as a record of devotion and labour. The dark metallic surface evokes the feeling of an excavated relic, while the flashes of colour suggest moments of memory emerging from beneath the surface.
Created coil by coil over many hours, The Body Remembers reflects an ongoing fascination with sacred object-making, permanence, and the traces of human presence embedded within handmade things.
