About the Artist

Casey Anne St John is an Australian ceramic artist creating one-of-a-kind sculptural vessels by hand from her studio in Bundeena, a coastal village south of Sydney.

Working coil by coil without the use of a pottery wheel, her practice investigates how devotion, ornament and careful attention can create objects that invite slow looking, moments of recognition, and a renewed relationship with the living world.

Her work has been exhibited throughout Australia and is held in private collections, including the acquisition of Earth and Ether for the Gruyere Farm Project by Simone Haag (Studio Manifold) following her selection as a finalist in the 2024 National Emerging Art Prize.

Studio

Every sculpture begins as a single coil of clay and is built entirely by hand. Casey is drawn to coiling for the intimacy it creates with the material — working slowly with the clay as something responsive and alive, rather than simply a material to be shaped.

While each vessel is refined toward symmetry, the process leaves behind minute variations that cannot be completely erased: subtle evidence of the hand, held within the finished form. Surfaces are then built through individually applied details and custom-made sprigs, allowing ornament to accumulate gradually over weeks of making.

It is this tension between precision and imperfection that gives each work its particular presence — highly considered, but never mechanically perfect.

Each work is a one-of-a-kind original, signed by the artist and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Worldwide shipping is available, with each work professionally packed and fully insured for transit.
