“I create hand-built ceramic vessels that explore transformation, devotion, imagination, and our relationship to the natural world.
Built coil by coil, each work becomes a record of time, care, and human presence. Through clay, I hope to create objects that evoke awe, wonder, and reverence while reminding us that magic is still alive—in nature, in imagination, and in the enduring human desire to create beautiful things.”
Artist’s Statement
I create hand-built ceramic vessels that explore transformation, devotion, imagination, and our relationship to the natural world.
Every piece is built coil by coil and passes entirely through my hands. There are no shortcuts or machines leaving their trace behind. Every relief, surface, and ornament is shaped by hand. For me, that process is important because I believe handmade objects carry something of the maker within them. They become a record of time, attention, care, and the things that have touched a person's heart deeply.
I have always been drawn to handmade objects because they feel alive. Mass-produced things often feel hollow to me; they don't make my heart skip a beat in the same way. A handmade object is physical proof of human imagination. It reminds me that people are deeply creative, and I think creativity is one of the closest things we have to magic.
Clay has become the material through which I make sense of the world. It grounds me, heals me, and allows me to integrate my own experiences of growth and change. Much of my work explores themes of transformation because transformation is something I am continually moving through myself. The vessels become mirrors for that process.
I am particularly drawn to the vessel form because it is one of humanity's oldest and most enduring archetypes. Across cultures and throughout history, vessels have held our food, water, offerings, ashes, stories, and rituals. They are forms of strength and reverence. I see them as capable of holding things both physically and spiritually.
The insects, birds, animals, and botanical forms that appear throughout my work are not decorative additions but symbols of the intelligence of the natural world. Moths, beetles, bees, butterflies, and snakes all embody cycles of transformation, resilience, instinct, and renewal. They move with nature rather than against it. By placing them on the vessel, I hope to elevate them to where they belong: deeply loved, respected, and cherished.
I often think about ornament in the same way I think about nature. If birds, flowers, insects, and forests disappeared from the world, something essential would be lost. I feel the same about ornamentation. To me, ornament is evidence of joy, wonder, imagination, and love. It is one of the ways humans mirror the beauty we see around us. It reminds us that life is about more than efficiency and utility.
Underlying all of my work is a belief that devotion witnessed is healing. When we encounter an object that clearly required thousands of decisions, hours of labour, patience, and care, we are witnessing evidence of what a human being can create when they devote themselves wholeheartedly to something meaningful.
Through clay, I hope to create objects that evoke awe, reverence, curiosity, and wonder. More than anything, I hope they remind people that magic is still alive — in nature, in imagination, in transformation, and in the enduring human desire to create beautiful things simply because we love them.
